About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.

During the recording process of the fifth album The group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a new album and change their name to a different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the final time that all the original members of Toto were performing together. Following this, the group was again disbanded. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 year that all of Toto's original members were on stage together. The original Toto members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

Toto has remained one of the most popular rock bands for over three decades, having scored huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line,"" and their 8X platinum smash, "Africa." The band's anthemic arena-rock is heavily influenced by a variety styles, including progressive rock, world rhythms jazz, and soul.
Despite their acclaim, the band faced several setbacks in their later years. In 2002, keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes were forced to take a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck was brought in to replace him however, the group wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after changes to the lineup and a disappointing string of releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 with the release of their album 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to form for the group, and the tour accompanied it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both joined the group.
